Dr Kate Thornton

Dr Kate Thornton currently works at Croda, a global manufacturer of speciality and oleochemical products, as an Applications Scientist in their Biopolymer Division. She completed her PhD in Enzyme Triggered Self-Assembled Peptide Derivative Hydrogels for Embryonic Stem Cell Culture at the University of Manchester in 2010. Prior to her PhD, Kate completed a Masters in Biomedical Material Science at the University of Manchester with a year in industry. It was following her undergraduate degree that she firstly became aware of the Institute's Younger Member's Committee as she was nominated for the Student Award.

Kate joined the YMC in 2008 before becoming Chair of the Committee in 2015 and Vice-President of the Insitute in 2018.

In her spare time she enjoys walking, snowboarding (although she spends too much time falling over!), knitting and travelling.
