Science Council President: applications open!

Applications are open for the President of the Science Council in October 2020. 

About the role

This is an exciting time to join us as our new President, as we continue to deliver our strategy in partnership with our members. The President plays a leading role in championing the value of the science profession to governments, employers across various industries and sectors, the scientific workforce, and to the wider public. We are looking for someone who will provide influence and leadership at the highest level, acting as an ambassador for the Science Council and strengthening the reach and impact of the charity. The office of President is a critical one for the Science Council; we welcome applications from high calibre individuals to this role who are excited about the opportunity to raise the profile and impact of the Science Council and the value of the profession, and with the time and energy to commit to the role.

Term of office

Candidates should be made aware that the President’s term of office is for 4 years. However, following consultation with our members, we are looking to change our Bylaws so that the President’s term of office is for 2 years. Members will be invited to approve the proposed Bylaw changes at the March General Meeting, following which we will seek formal approval from the Privy Council.

Applying for the role

Applications for the role will close at 11.59pm on Monday 16th March and should be sent to the Governance Manager, Oliver O’Hanlon ( At its meeting on 5th May the Board will agree a preferred candidate, and six weeks before the Annual General Meeting (taking place on Tuesday 30th June), members will be sent notice of the Board’s nomination and other required information, as per our Regulations. Members will be invited at the Annual General Meeting to vote for the next President of the Science Council.
