IOM3 launches first TCB annual forum

14 Nov 2019

On 12 November, IOM3 held its first Technology Communities Board Annual Forum in London. The aim of the forum was to introduce technical communities and divisional chairs to the Strategic Advisors and for the various IOM3 divisions to share best practices, challenges and to help shape the Institute’s events calendar going forward.

The day was opened by Chair of the TCB Mike Clinch, Senior Consultant at Innoval Technology followed by an outline of the IOM3 strategy and vision by CEO Colin Church. In his presentation Colin discussed the main outlines of the strategy:

  • To be the best professional membership body IOM3 can be
  • Support the materials, minerals and mining professionals to be heroes of the transition to a low-carbon, resource efficiency society and not the villains.

The aim of the TCB is to introduce a new way of working to better reflect the IOM3 strategy by creating dialogue between the different divisions and communities, provide knowledge and support for media and policy enquiries and generate valuable content for members.

Mike went on to outline some of the work already made by the Strategic Advisors including event reports from the Global Materials Summit 2019, Resource Recovery from Waste workshop, judging at the upcoming Rushlight Awards as well as SA representing IOM3 on discussions with BAIS on carbon capture storage and the global minerals professional alliance.

Plans are currently underway to produce quarterly reports of each allocated SA divisions, a twice a year newsletter as well as another annual forum in Autumn 2020.
