The Frank Paine Packaging Award will be given to the person who can show an outstanding contribution within the Science and Technology of Packaging. It is open to members and non members globally. The medal will be awarded every two years and the recipient will be asked to give a lecture on packaging innovation to an audience of young professionals the following year.

The Iron and Steel Society (ISS) Board of IOM3 wish to improve communications within the iron and steel `community` and are in the process of revising its website, making it more user-friendly and increasing the scope for more up-to-date and varied content. As part of this process we will publish a newsletter after each Board meeting, highlighting the main topics discussed, producing a regular news item from a Board member, and inviting feedback, comments on potential future activities, and so on.

Responding to global market needs, the College of West Anglia have launched the PIABC Level 3 Diploma in Polymer Processing qualification. The new regulated qualification, created by Solutions 4 Polymers (S4PL) and PIABC Limited (the awarding body of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining) will provide a skilled technical workforce for the polymer processing industries.
